Gazing Over The Mother City

A quick snap on the way down Lion's Head at sunset this weekend. It's such an incredible view from up there. You literally get a full panoramic view of Cape Town city. Just another reason why I love this city.

False Bay Sunrise

I had great fun capturing the sunrise on this particular morning. Had to get up before 4:00 AM to hike the mountain behind us in order to get there before sunrise at 5:30 AM. The mountain had recently been burnt and the wind was blowing extremely hard, so not only was I covered in ash, but I struggled to keep myself upright. Despite this it was a lovely sunrise, looking right across False Bay.

At The End Of The Road

If you look carefully at the horizon you will see a flat rock with a hole in it. That there is the Wolfberg Arch (don't be deceived, that small hole is at least 25 metres high), and this scene was a very pleasing sight for me, knowing I was almost at my destination. It had been a long day hauling up heavy backpacks and camera equipment, and to have the end end in sight was a great feeling. It almost seemed fitting that the clouds were gathering at the 'end of the road'.

The Cederberg is a dry arid landscape, and while this may sound like it's a boring, formless landscape, it is anything but. Millions of years of wind pummelling against the mountain range have caused fantastic and beautiful rock formations, the most predominant being the Wolfberg Arch.

With the knowledge that there was no water along the day hike toward this landmark, my father and I decided to haul our packs loaded with camera equipment and 10 litres of water up the steep slopes.

We were pretty beat by the time we got our camp. But despite the aching bones and tired legs, the view was absolutely worth it. With our tent set up practically underneath the beautiful arch, and not a soul in sight for miles, we snapped away with our cameras.

All in all a great trip!!!

Photo of the Day: A Very Obliging Lizard!!!

I recently came back from a range of mountains in South Africa called the Cederberg. This area has magnificent rock formations, and reminds me in some ways of the beautiful landscapes of Cappadocia. I will post more pictures of my trip in days to come. 

This guy however was a talking point in itself. He really was beautiful, but strangely also very tame. Normally to capture a shot like this you would have to use a telephoto of sorts in order for him to not be scared away. But this shot was taken with the lens I had been using to take the beautiful scenery around me, which happened to be my Sigma 10-20mm landscape lens. I panned my camera around him, taking a number of shot no longer than a rulers length away from him.
